MEN'S TENNIS HAS SUCCESSFUL WEEKEND AT FAIRFIELD DOUBLES FESTIVAL

Mass.) took down the second flight of the Fairfield Doubles
Festival, as the Bryant men's tennis team capped off a very
successful weekend in their first ever Division I tournament.
Rodriguez and Nowak went undefeated in pool play, beating teams
from New Jersey Institute of Technology, St. Peter's, and UConn to
go a perfect 3-0. The Bulldog pair then defeated George Laffey and
Dan Sauter from Fairfield University, 8-5, in the semi-final match
before upending Garret Lane and James Kwei from Quinnipiac to win
the tournament. They are the first pair to win a Division I
tournament for Bryant.
The Bulldogs had two other sets of pairs also compete in the
tournament this weekend. Sophomore Cristian Balestrieri (Mar Del
Plata, Argentina) and junior Kevin Gardiner (Powder Springs, Ga.)
had great success in pool play as they competed in the first flight
of the tournament. Balistrieri and Gardiner went 3-0 in pool play,
knocking off Queens 8-4, Fairfield 10-8 and UConn 8-5, before being
eliminated in the semi-finals by NJIT 8-2. Junior Matt Shepard-Lupo
(West Boothbay Harbor, Maine), Dylan White (Florence, Mass.), and
Nicholai Hill competed in flight three of the tournament. They lost
their first two matches, 8-3, versus St. Peter's and, 9-8, versus
Fairfield before defeating NJIT, 8-3, for their first win as a
Division I pair.
The Bulldogs will be back in action for a home match on
Saturday,
September 21st as they host the Bryant Invitational
(TBA).
