MEN'S TENNIS DROPS PAIR OVER WEEKEND IN NEW JERSEY

SMITHFIELD, RI - On its road trip to the Garden State this weekend, the Bryant University men's tennis team dropped to 1-5 after a pair of non-conference matches to NJIT and St. Peter's College.

On Saturday, NJIT defeated the Bulldogs 6-1 as senior Tom Nowak (Medfield, Mass.) picked up the only win in singles play for Bryant. Nowak playing in the No. 5 singles spot defeated Highlander senior Cosmin Chiujdea in a thrilling three set match, 5-7, 6-2 and 12-10. The Bulldogs also won one of the three double matches. Sophomore Juan Paredes (Quito, Ecuador) and junior Nicholai Hill (Ottawa, Ont.) teamed up to defeated Chiujdea and Stephen Erickson 8-7. In the No. 1 singles spot junior Christian Balestrieri (Mar Del Plata, Argentina) won the first set but Erickson battled back to win 3-6, 6-1 and 6-4.

Bryant won two matches on Sunday at St. Peter's but in the end were downed 5-2 by the Peacocks. St. Peter's opened up the action with two out of the three victories in doubles play to earn the point and take the early lead. The one Bulldog victory in doubles play came from Balestrieri and Andres Orobitg (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico) as they defeated Andrew Musyoka and JJ Gramatica 8-7. Parades and Hill were the two Bulldogs to win single matches. Paredes, who was playing No. 2 singles, defeated Alex Frakes in straight sets, 6-3 and 6-3. Playing in the No. 4 singles spot, Hill defeated Gramatica 6-2, 6-0 for Bryant's second singles victory.
