MEN'S TENNIS BOUNCES BACK WITH A STRONG SHOWING AT UCONN INVITATIONAL FRIDAY

BRYANT MEN’S TENNIS HAS IMPRESSIVE SHOWING AT UCONN INVITATIONAL

 

STORRS, Conn. – The Bryant University men’s tennis team rebounded nicely from Wednesday’s loss to UConn with an impressive showing in the opening round of the UConn Husky Invitational Friday.  The Bulldogs notched wins over Quinnipiac, Boston University, Holy Cross, Sacred Heart and Hartford.

 

Cristian Balestrieri turned in a solid outing in his opener in the Flight “A” with a 6-4, 7-5 win over Quinnipiac’s John Hughes.  Juan Paredes knocked off Cohenca of Bucknell, 6-3, 6-2 also in flight A.  

Junior Nicholai Hill was a winner over BU’s Hallenbeck, 6-2, 7-5 while Kevin Gardiner, Andres Orobitg and Tom Nowak were also winners.  In all, the Bulldogs went 7-1 in doubles and a perfect 4-0 in singles matches.  Elisa McQuade had an impressive first appearance as a Bulldog going 2-0 in doubles competition with Andres Orobtg.

 

“After a tough loss on Wednesday, I am proud of how they bounced back,” said coach Ron Gendron.  “The Bulldogs bite back!”

 

The tournament will continue through the weekend.

Mikkelson/Kwei - QU defeated Balestrieri/Paredes - Bryant 8-4

B Doubles
Gardiner/Nowak - Bryant defeated Syer/Christie - SH 8-6

C Doubles
Bryant - 3 defeated BU - 3 8-4
