A 1990 graduate of Providence College, Gendron is entering his second season as head coach of the Bryant men's tennis team.
A former standout tennis player at Providence. During his time at PC, the men's squad finished second in the BIG EAST Conference. Since graduating, he has taught and coached the game of tennis at several levels.
Gendron was a volunteer assistant coach with the Providence men's tennis team and the head tennis coach for the Lady Friar's.
In addition to his collegiate coaching experience, Gendron was also a developmental coach with the U.S. Professional Tennis Association.
As an assistant coach with the Bryant men's and women's tennis teams, the Bryant women won three consecutive Northeast-10 Conference titles. The owner of nearby Greenville Concrete Gendron is a member of the U.S.P.T.A. and remains active on the local tennis circuit as a doubles player in Rhode Island.
In his first full season as head coach of the Bulldogs, Gendron led the squad to their most successful season in school history, boasting an overall record of 21-4, including a perfect 10-0 mark in the Northeast-10 conference. The Bulldogs did not even drop a set throughout the entire conference schedule. All of this helped Gendron coach the first ever nationally ranked tennis team in Bryant history, ranking #44 in the country and #3 in the Northeast Region. The team captured the Northeast-10 conference regular season and tournamen championships in dominating fashion. Gendron pulled in big recruits including Cristian Balistrieri (Mar Del Plata, Argentina), Jose Rodriguez (Trujillo, Peru), and Tom Nowak (Medfield, Mass.).
Balestrieri went 18-4 at No. 1 singles, Rodriguez 13-3 at
No. 2 and Nowak 8-1 at No. 3 and 7-3 at No. 4. Sophomore Kevin
Gardiner went 10-5 at No. 5. Balestrieri and Gardiner went
10-3 at No. 1 doubles, Nowak and Rodriguez 12-2 at No. 2. Matt
Sheppard-Lupo and Dylan Whiting were 9-3 at No. 3.
Gendron will lead the Bulldogs into their first season of Division
I play in 2008-09.
