Seven Bulldogs Named All-Conference in
Softball in 2006;
Jordan Dargon Named Player
of the Year;
Janine Enos Named Pitcher and Player of the Week
Smithfield, RI - The Bryant University softball team placed seven players on the 2006 Northeast-10 All-Conference Softball team announced during the conference's championship this past weekend. Senior captain Jordan Dargon (Trumbull, CT) was named to the All-Conference first team and the 2006 Northeast-10 Player of the Year. Six other Bulldogs found their names amongst the best this year on the first, second, and third teams.
This marks the second year in a row that the Player of the Year has worn a Bulldogs uniform. Last year's recipient, Deidre Kittredge, set numerous school records. Dargon followed suit, setting her own number of school records this season in leading the team to their third straight NCAA tournament appearance. Jordan has played in 170 games in her career behind the plate starting and completing 167 of them. Her discipline at the plate is matched by no one as she set single season records in 2005 and 2006 with 24 and 27 walks respectively. She also holds the career mark for career walks with 88.
Other Bulldogs earning recognition for their contributions on the field are juniors Amanda Wilbur (Lakeville, MA) and Lindsay Connor (West Haven, CT) who were named to the First Team. Sophomore pitcher Janine Enos (Wareham, MA), who was just named Pitcher and Player of the Week for the final week of the season, was named to the Second Team. Joining Enos on the Second Team was sophomore Jess Valentini (Cliffside Park, NJ) who had the game winning hit in the championship game against UMass Lowell.
Junior Amanda Gagne (Wilbraham, MA) and freshman Kate Thomas (Bedford, NH) earned Third Team All-Conference honors.
After winning their first ever regular season conference title, the Bulldogs made it two conference tournament championships in a row. They have tied a school record for most wins in a season with 29 and are on their way to their third consecutive NCAA tournament. Other records fell this past weekend for Bryant as Janine Enos set a single season record for most wins in a season with 13 and tied the single season record for strikeouts in a season with 108. Amanda Wilbur has tied a single season record for homeruns in a season with 8 and is also the program's career leader with 14. Jordan Dargon surpassed her own record for most walks in a season with 27. Lindsay Connor has set a new single season record for stolen bases with 25 and is now the career leader with 45.
