Bulldogs Heading Home after Long Road Trip

Lakeland, FL - The Bryant University softball team dropped two one run ball games on Sunday as they finished their six game road trip in the Sunshine State. Bryant fell to #3 Florida Southern 5-4 followed by a tough extra inning 3-2 loss to Hillsdale.

In the first game on Sunday, the Bulldogs had the tough task of dealing with #3 Florida Southern, however they were up to the challenge. The Bulldogs were on the scoreboard first with an unearned run in the second inning. Florida Southern would battle back and put up a two spot in the bottom of the third to take the lead. Bryant would regain the lead after hitting five consecutive singles in the top of the fourth scoring three runs. Florida Southern would again answer with a run in the bottom of the fifth and two more in the bottom of the sixth. The lead would hold as the Bulldogs were held scoreless in the final three innings. Senior captain Jordan Dargon (Trumbull, CT) led the Bulldogs with three hits.

The Bulldogs' final opponent of the weekend was Hillsdale. The game was scoreless through the first four innings until Bryant struck first in the top of the fifth. A Lindsay Connor (West Haven, CT) bunt and an Amanda Wilbur (Lakeville, MA) double resgistered the first run of the game. Wilbur finished the game 3-5 with an RBI. Hillsdale would respond tying the game with an unearned run in the bottom half of the inning.

The game would stay tied as the teams went into extra innings. In the top of the eighth, Bryant struck with an unearned run with an RBI from Connor. Lindsay finished 2-5 with an RBI and a run scored. Hillsdale would strike right back in the bottom of the inning with an unearned run of their own. They would also score the game winning run with a walk, a sacrifice and two singles to win the game 3-2 in eight innings.

The Bulldogs return to Smithfield for their home opener on Sunday when they will host Caldwell at noon.
