Bryant Softball Sweeps Double Header with Saint Anselm
Smithfield, RI - The Bryant University softball team welcomed Saint Anselm to the Bryant Softball Complex for a double-header on a blistery Tuesday afternoon. Bryant would win both taking the first game 10-2 in six innings and the second game 12-4 in six innings. The Bulldogs are now 5-11 overall and 4-2 in conference play. The Hawks are 5-13 overall and 0-6 in the Northeast-10.
In game one, the Bulldogs jumped out to a quick start scoring four runs in the first inning due to six singles. Bryant would then score four more in the sixth to take the game 10-2. Junior Amanda Gagne (Wilbraham, MA) led off the sixth inning with a solo homerun. Two batters later, senior Jordan Dargon (Trumbull, CT) connected for a two-run homerun. Freshman Kate Thomas (Bedford, NH) and sophomore Jessica Valentini (Cliffside Park, NJ) both finished with three hits each.
Sophomore Janine Enos (Wareham, MA) went the distance, picking up her second win of the season. She gave up one earned run and struck out seven.
Game two started just the way game one did with Bryant scoring multiple runs in the bottom of the first. The Bulldogs put up a six spot on eight consecutive hits including junior Amanda Wilbur's (Lakeville, MA) two-run homerun. Wilbur finished 3-4 with two RBI's.
Saint Anselm would get two runs back in the top of the fifth on a two-run homerun by freshman Brittney Birch (Bradford, MA). However, the Bulldogs would respond with three more runs in the bottom half of the inning taking a 9-2 lead. The Hawks scored two more runs in the top of the sixth, but the Bulldogs answered again with three of their own which ended the game at 12-4.
Bulldog freshman Kate Thomas (Bedford, NH) continued her success from game one with another three hit game including one RBI and two runs scored. Sophomore Jen Serrano (Stoneham, MA) went 3-3 with three RBI's.
Bryant will host Stonehill on Thursday, April 6 with first pitch scheduled for 3:00 pm.
