BROOKVILLE, NY - Behind a balanced offensive attack, and a gritty pitching performance from Janine Enos (Wareham, Mass.), the #6 seed Bryant Bulldogs defeated #3 Dowling 6-0 to advance to Sunday play at the Northeast Regionals of the NCAA Softball Tournament. On a day that saw three more teams eliminated, the Bulldogs were the only team to emerge from the loser's bracket and advance to Sunday action. The Bulldogs are now one of only three teams in the region with a chance to advance to the Division II College World Series in Akron, Ohio next weekend.

third game of the NCAA Tourney

Enos was masterful in her second start of the day and third in just over 24 hours. The junior shut down the Golden Lions for 5.2 innings, allowing 7 hits. She was relieved by senior Nikki Ingalls (Westford, Mass.) in the top of the sixth inning. Ingalls would get the last four batters of the game out in order, to finish the win.
For the first time in the tournament, the Bulldogs did not allow a run in the first inning, and instead got on the board first in the third inning, when an error by Dowling first baseman Jackie Rogers allowed Jennifer Serrano (Stoneham, Mass.) to score from second. Serrano had doubled, and came home when Briana Durborow's (Ringoes, NJ) sacrifice bunt was dropped at first by Rogers.
Amanda Gagne (Wilbraham, Mass.) followed two batters later with a sacrifice fly that brought home Durborow. An inning later, Kate Thomas (Bedford, NH) and Serrano would drive in runs to move the advantage to four.
Thomas would add an RBI double in the sixth for her second hit of the game, and second two-hit game in two days. Against
Ashley Coon (Fairless Hills, PA) also had an RBI single and senior Lindsay Connor (West Haven, CT) and Serrano each had two hits in the victory.
The game was a rematch of Thursday's first round game, also won by the Bulldogs by the score of 6-2. The loss eliminates the Golden Lions from NCAA competition, with both losses coming at the hands of the Bulldogs.
With the win, the Bulldogs move to Sunday action against #8 seed UMass-Lowell, who fell to #2 C.W. Post Saturday afternoon. Game time is scheduled for 1pm. The Bulldogs are 2-1 against the Riverhawks this season, sweeping two in the regular season but falling May 4 in the Northeast-10 Tournament's opening round.
