BRYANT SOFTBALL WELCOMES BACK ALUMNI FOR WEEKEND FESTIVITIES

Smithfield, R.I.- The Bryant University softball team celebrated homecoming and reunion weekend with a variety of events, as they welcomed back former players, coaches, and parents to campus last weekend.
The weekend began with a dinner on Friday night, followed by the annual one-pitch slow-pitch Alumni Game on Saturday, as the alumni took on the current Bryant Bulldogs at the Bryant Softball Complex . In the end, the alumni took down the Bulldogs in a contest that featured a lot of offense, with a final tally being 17-7. The participating alumni included: Janine Enos ('08), Jennifer Serrano ('08), Jessica Valentini ('08), Lauren McNiff ('07), Amanda Wilbur ('07), Lindsay Connor ('07), Jordan Dargon ('06), Diane P. Cummings ('05), Nic Keene ('04), Katie Kelly ('04), Kate Slack ('04), and Lindsay Schoolcraft ('03). Also visiting campus were Deidre Kittredge ('05) and Kelly Cimino ('01). Following the game, all participants took part in a barbeque and took in the homecoming football game, watching as Bryant football defeated Merrimack, 20-7.
Sunday saw many alumni, as well as the current players, run in the eighth-annual Shawn M. Nassaney Memorial Cross Country Race/Walk. The race is held in memory of the Bulldogs' former cross country captain - a 1998 graduate of Bryant who was a casualty of United Airlines Flight 175 on September 11, 2001.

Bryant softball began practicing last week in preparation for their first season at the Division I level. The team, which qualified for five straight NCAA tournaments at the Division II level, gets set for to kick off their fall schedule on September 28th at 12 p.m. as they take on URI in a double-header at the Bryant Softball Complex. The Bulldogs then travel to Providence Collegeon October 4th when they face-off against the Friars at 10 a.m. and Boston College at noon.
