BULLDOGS HOST BOSTON COLLEGE IN NON-CONFERENCE MATCHUP SATURDAY AT NOON
SMITHFIELD, R.I. – After being shutout in both meetings last season, the Bryant University softball team will look for revenge on Saturday afternoon as it takes on ACC affiliate Boston College at the BU Softball Complex at noon.
With a 9-8 loss to Rhode Island on Tuesday, a game that was decided in the final two innings, the Bulldogs dropped to 2-12 overall on the season. Bryant’s wins have come against Detroit-Mercy and Holy Cross in the 2010 home opener.
Boston College comes into Saturday’s contest with a 7-10 overall record. The Eagles began the season 5-2 but have since lost eight of their last 10, including six straight.
Last season, the Eagles defeated the Bulldogs 9-0 at a neutral site and 3-0 at the Bryant Softball Complex.
Freshman Kate Murray (Fitchburg, Mass.) and sophomore Laura Bowen (Hudson, Mass.) are off to a great start in the 2010 season. Murray is leading the team with a .375 batting average while Bowen boasts the only other average above .300 with a .310. The second baseman leads the team in at bats (42), runs (11), hits (13) and stolen bases (3). Senior catcher Ashley Coon (Levittown, Pa.) is currently hitting .282 and looking to extend a team-high five-game hitting streak.
The Eagles will play a doubleheader Saturday as they face off against the Main Black Bears in a neutral site game at the Bryant Softball Complex. The Bulldogs return to action on Sunday with a doubleheader against Maine. The first game is scheduled for 12 p.m.
