SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The Bryant University softball team will make the long road trip to western Pennsylvania this weekend as the Bulldogs return to Northeast Conference action with a doubleheader matchup against both Robert Morris and Saint Francis (Pa.). Bryant will play the Colonials on Saturday and the Red Flash on Sunday, with both matchups starting at 12 p.m.
The Bulldogs (4-28, 1-9 NEC) went 1-4 in last week’s action, picking up their first NEC victory over visiting Fairleigh Dickinson. Down 5-0 heading into the bottom of the sixth inning, the Bulldogs railed to score seven runs and defeat the Knights 7-5.
Bryant also forced a nine inning battle with rival Central Connecticut last week, but fell just two runs short losing 10-8 to the Blue Devils. Most recently, the Bulldogs are coming off a 4-0 loss to America East affiliate Boston University on Wednesday.
Robert Morris enters Saturday’s game in sole possession of third place in the NEC with a 17-13 overall record and 7-2 mark in conference play. The Colonials, winners of three in-a-row, are 8-2 at home this season.
Saint Francis (Pa.) will host Central Connecticut on Saturday before playing the Bulldogs Sunday at 12 and 2 p.m. Entering Saturday’s matchup with CCSU, the Red Flash is 9-30 overall and sits tied for last place in the NEC with Bryant at 1-9 in conference play.
Junior captain Sami Houseal (Mount Joy, Pa.) will look for her first victory this weekend as she returns to her home state. In fact, including Houseal three Bulldog softball players are from the Keystone State. Tri-captain and four-year starter at catcher Ashley Coon (Levittown, Pa.) and junior utility player Regi Burdo (Wayne, Pa.) are both from Pennsylvania.
