SOFTBALL WELCOMES BOSTON COLLEGE AND MAINE TO SMITHFIELD THIS WEEKEND
SMITHFIELD, R.I. - After splitting their home opener against Holy Cross on Tuesday, the Bryant softball team welcomes a pair of top-notch New England softball programs to the Ocean State for a pair of weekend double-headers as Boston College and Maine visit Smithfield, R.I. Bryant will take on BC on Saturday afternoon for a game at 12 p.m., followed by BC and Maine matching-up at 2 p.m. The Bulldogs will then play the Black Bears in a double-header beginning at 12 p.m. on Sunday.

The Boston College softball team enters Saturday's game
off a seven-day break after games scheduled for March 14 and 15
were cancelled due to inclement weather. The Eagles return to the
field in Smithfield, R.I. on Saturday, March 21 with record of
8-12.
Junior Amy Tunstall leads the Eagles with a .351 batting average and 14 RBI on the season while junior Taylor Peyton has helped carry the team on the mound, going 6-6 so far in 2009. Peyton leads the team with 72 innings pitched and 42 strikeouts.
The two squads met back on February 8, with the Eagles taking home a 9-0 win. Tunstall was 3-for-3 with four RBI in the game while Peyton threw a no-hitter to get the win.
SCOUTING THE UNIVERSITY OF MAINE (Sunday doubleheader,
starting at 12 p.m.)
The University of Maine (16-12) returns to the field after
a stellar performance last week, also at the Rebel Games. The Black
Bears went 12-3 on the week with victories over such teams as Holy
Cross, Yale and Penn.
The Black Bears also took a 10-4 victory over Bryant as part of their Rebel Games dominance, with Kali Burnham going 3-for-4 with two runs and an RBI against the combination of Houseal and freshman Stephanie Barrett (Plaistow, N.H.). Alexis Souhlaris also had a strong day, going 2-for-3 from the plate with a trio of runs and an RBI on the day.
Bryant was led in the loss by a 2-for-3, one-run performance by senior Kate Thomas (Bedford, N.H.), as four different Bulldogs drove in runs on the afternoon.
Souhlaris leads Maine with a .371 batting average and 20 RBI on the year. The junior also leads the team on the mound with a 2.23 ERA in 37.2 innings pitched. Senior Ashley Waters is also dangerous at the plate, pacing the team with eight doubles and a triple so far on the season, boasting a .319 batting average.
