KATIE CAMERON NAMED SWIM COACH AT BRYANT

SMITHFIELD, RI . –   The Bryant University Department of Athletics and Recreation has announced the hiring of Katie Cameron as head men's and women's swimming coach.  The announcement was made today by Director of Athletics Dan Gavitt.

"We are pleased to welcome Katie to our staff here at Bryant University," said Gavitt.  "She brings a wealth of experience in coaching the sport of swimming and has found success in overseeing a new swimming program similar to the one we are starting here at Bryant."

A native of Brooklyn, N.Y., Cameron comes to Bryant from Wagner College (NY) where she was the head women's swimming coach since 1997.  During her eight seasons at Wagner,  Cameron was the first coach of the women's Division I swim program handling all coaching and administrative duties, plus fundraising and budgeting at the college.

In addition to her duties with the women's swim team, Cameron served as the Wagner College Aquatics director, overseeing all scheduling and staffing at the college.  For two seasons (2001-03), Cameron coached the women's water polo team and served as the water polo administrator during the 2003-04 season.

A 1996 graduate of the Syracuse University School of Management, Cameron earned her Masters in Education from Wagner in 2001.

Last summer, Bryant University announced the addition of women's intercollegiate swimming and the reinstatement of men's intercollegiate swimming as varsity programs effective in the fall of 2005.  The addition of both swim programs will bring the total number of varsity sports offered by Bryant University to 22.  Bryant is a member of the Northeast-10 Conference which sponsors 23 championship sports - including men's and women's swimming.
