Indoor Track & Field Teams Head to New England Championships
SMITHFIELD, RI - The Bryant men's and women's indoor track & field teams will send nine representatives to compete in this weekend's New England Indoor Track & Field Championships at Boston University. The meet will kick off on Friday and conclude Saturday. Jess Cegarra (Danville, N.H.), the Northeast-10 Shot Put champion is seeded 14th while Hafiz Greigre (Attleboro, Mass.) is seeded third with a time of 6.47 in the 55 meters and ninth in the 200 meters.
Cegarra holds the school record in the shot put at 41 feet, 10.75 ineches and took first at the NE-10 Conference meet at over 40 feet. She posted a season-best 40 feet, 6 inches at Tufts.
Griegre has the nation's 19th-best time in the men's 200 meters of 21.92 set at Wesleyan. He ran a season-best 6.47 at the Smith Invitational in the first week of February .
Also competing this weekend will be freshman Amber Torrey (Plainfield, Mass.) who is seeded 10th in the New England in the women's weight throw. Torrey had a season-best mark of 49 feet, 5.5 inches to place second at the Tufts Stampede on Feb. 12.
Matt Cutler (Yarmouthport, Mass.) and Nick Balistrieri (Glastonbury, Conn.) will kick things off with the heptathlon on Friday and will compete throughout the weekend. Dallas Lynch (Wayne, N.J.) is seeded 11th in the men's triple jump and will compete on Saturday at 1 p.m. Lynch has a best-mark of 44 feet, 11 inches set at the Smith Invitational.
Warwick's Holly Resendes will compete on Friday in the women's 5,000 meters after placing second in a season-best time of 18:39.5 at the Northeast-10 Conference Championships last week in New Haven.
Teammate Michelle Morris is also scheduled to compete in the women's 55 meter prelims on Friday as well with the top times advancing to Saturday's finals.
