Cegarra and Paul Shine at Wesleyan Invitational

MIDDLETOWN, CONN. - Bryant's Jessica Cegarra and Caleb Paul of Addison, Maine turned in solid performances at Saturday's Wesleyan University Cardinal Indoor Track Meet. Cegarra took first place in the women's shot put while Paul took home second in the men's 1,500 meters. Hafiz Greigre took home a pair of second-place finishes in both the men's 200 meters and long jump competition.

Cegarra, a member of the Bryant women's volleyball team and native of Danville, N.H., competed in several events on Saturday. The sophomore finished 21st in the 55 meter dash in 8.26 seconds but particulary excels in the field events for the Bulldogs. After finished tied for ninth in the long jump at 14 feet, 9.75 inches, Cegarra turned in a fine performance in the shot put, edging Jasmine Jennings of CCRI by just under two inches with a winning throw of 38 feet, 5 inches.

Teammate Amber Torrey was sixth in the shot put (35-0.5) while Sarah Slingerland was 12th (30-6.25).

In the track events, Nicole Radzik took home fifth in the 5,000 meters in a time of 19 minutes, 54.12 seconds while Lisa Bielenin was eighth in the women's 1,000 meters in 1:05.28.

On the men's side, Paul took second in the 1,500 meters in 4:08.10, only three seconds behind the overall winner, Pat Ard of Keene State (4:05.62). Teammate Steve Barone was 13th in the 1,500m, finishing in a time of 4:22.86.

Greigre, a native of Attleboro, placed second in the long jump with a mark of 21 feet, 9 inches with Daniel Kwarteng not far behind in fifth place at 21-4.75. Greigre would come back strong in the 200 meters, taking second overall in 22.22 seconds, just .07 behind NJCU's Bullock Sherron who crossed the line first in 22.05.
