TRACK TEAMS HEAD TO NEW ENGLAND CHAMPIONSHIPS
SMITHFIELD, RI - Following last week's cancellation of the Northeast-10 Conference Track & Field Championships, the Bryant University men's and women's track & field teams will send a strong contingent to the 2005 New England Track & Field Championships this weekend. The meet, which starts Thursday and runs through Saturday, will be held at the University of New Hampshire.
The championships will kick off Thursday with the decathlon in which both Matt Cutler and Nick Balistrieri will be competing in. The decathlon will run through Friday. Cutler is the school's record holder in the event and scored high earlier this year at Holy Cross.
Competing on Friday will be Amber Torrey (hammer and shot put) and Hafiz Greigre (100m and 200 meters). Torrey is in the running for freshman of the year honors this season while Greigre has set several school records this season, including a new 200 meter mark set at the Bryant Invitational earlier this year. The New England's 100m and 200m will open with the prelims Friday and the finals on Saturday.
Mike Nessralla will compete Saturday in the discus along with freshman standout Dallas Lynch in the triple jump. Holly Resendes has earned a spot in the women's 5,000 meters on Saturday while the men's 4 x 100 meter relay squad consisting of Ernest Baah, Daniel Kwarteng, Joe Brennan, and Greigre are scheduled to compete Friday in the trials.
