Bulldogs Compete at New England Championships

DURHAM, N.H. – The Bryant University track & field teams sent a contingent to the annual New England Track & Field Championships over the weekend.  Hosted by the University of New Hampshire, the Bulldogs got a strong performance from sophomore standout sprinter Hafiz Greigre (Attleboro, Mass.).

Greigre, the holder of Bryant’s indoor and outdoor sprint records, placed 15th in the preliminaries of the men’s 100 meters, finishing in 11.02, just missing the qualification cut-off for the finals of 10.96 seconds.

However, Greigre would not be turned away later on in his primary event: the 200 meters. During the winter months, Greigre posted one of the top indoor 200 meter times in the country and this spring.

Saturday, Greigre stayed true to form once again.  Competing against the top athletes in all divisions from around New England, Greigre took fifth in the preliminaries in a time of 21.35 seconds and earning a place in the finals. His time of 21.35 is a new school record in the event, passing his old mark of 21.98 set at the Bryant Invitational earlier this spring. In the final heat, with five of the eight sprinters from Division I programs, Greigre placed second in 22.11, just behind overall winner Ashhad Agyapong of URI (21.92).

Greigre would also team with Ernest Baah, Daniel Kwarteng, Joe Brennan to help lead the 4 x 100 meter relay team to a 10th place finish in 43.13.   Dallas Lynch set a new school record in the men's triple jump. The Wayne, N.J. native placed fourth in the event with a school record jump of 47 feet, 0.25 inches.

In the throws, Mike Nessralla took 13th in the men’s discus throw with a mark of 139 feet. Teammate Nick Balistrieri placed ninth in the decathlon with 5,147 points.

On the women’s side, Holly Resendes (Warwick, RI) took 21st in the women’s 5,000 meters in 20:15.85 while teammate Jennifer Goodwin placed 20th in the 10,000 meters in 44:35.60.  Freshman Amber Torrey (Plainfield, NH) took 15th in the shot put with a mark of 32 feet, two inches and placed 12th in the hammer throw at 142-11.
