INDOOR SEASON KICKS OFF SEASON AT NORTHEASTERN'S NEW BALANCE INVITATIONAL

BOSTON, Mass - The Bryant men’s and women’s indoor track teams opened the 2005-06 season at the Northeastern University New Balance Invitational at Reggie Lewis Center on Saturday. The Bulldogs had several strong showings in just the first indoor meet of the season. Highlighting the afternoon was the performance of Hafiz Greigre. The junior speedster posted the fastest time in the prelims of the 55 meter dash in 6.56 seconds and finished second in the finals in 6.48.
Greigre would not be outdone in the 200 meters later in the afternoon, however. The school record holder of the indoor and outdoor 200m, took first place Saturday in a time of 22.24 seconds. James Anacone turned in a time of 24.53.
Anacome would take 22nd in the 400 meters in 53.18 while Joe Brennan was Bryant’s top finisher in the 400 with a time of 51.11 to place ninth. Steven Carr and Brian Ford were 17th and 20th respectively in the mile while senior Caleb Paul finished the 3,000 meters in 8:53.73 to take eighth in the event.
In the field events, Jerry Laguerre was eighth overall in the men’s high jump, clearing six feet, two inches. Jeff Hedberg placed tenth, clearing 6 feet.
Dallas Lynch had a standout afternoon in the jumps, finishing fourth in the men’s long jump with a mark of 21 feet, 6.75 inches and later taking second place in the triple jump with a mark of 45-10.75.
On the women’s side, junior Jessica Cegarra took third place in the shot put at 40 feet, six inches while teammate Amber Torrey was eleventh with a mark of 35-11.25. Torrey would add a third place finish in the women’s weight throw with a day’s best throw of 46 feet, 2.5 inches.
In the track events, Jennifer Goodwin was 13th in a time 3:14.90. Junior Natasha Stevenson was third overall in the 200 meter dash, crossing the line in 26.26 seconds.
