GREIGRE SETS NEW RECORD IN 100M; SCHNEIDER TIES POLE VAULT MARK AT MIT COED INVITATIONAL
RESULTS / Bryant Men's Best Marks / Women's Best Marks
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Despite the overcast clouds Saturday in Boston, the Bryant men's and women's track & field teams had several shining moments as the Bulldogs set two school records and saw many more season-best marks set at the M.I.T. Coed Invitational.
Highlighting the afternoon was the performance of speedster
Hafiz Greigre
(Attleboro,
MA). The owner of two
outdoor school records coming into the meet, the sophomore set
another in the men's 100 meter dash in a blistering time of 10.71
seconds. Greigre placed second in the overall standings in
the 100m, trailing only Zach Traina's hand time finish of 10.6
seconds.
Greigre would officially take home a first place finish later by taking top honors in the men's 200m in a season-best time of 21.56 seconds. Curt Markinac (Ashland, Mass.) ran well in both the 100m and 200m, running a personal-best 11.79 and 23.79 respectively in each event.
Teammate Joe Brennan (East Providence, RI / La Salle) took home fourth place in the 400 meters in a season-best time of 50.59 seconds while Corey Chapman (Colchester, Conn.) and Justin Getts (Beacon Falls, Conn.) each improved their times in the 800 meters as Chapman crossed the line in just over two minutes (2:00.56) to place 10th and Getts placed 13th in 2:01.63.
Senior Caleb Paul (Addison, Maine) ran a strong race in the men's 5,000 meters, placing second overall in 15:36.94. Competing in the 3,000 meter steeplechase for the first time this spring, Brian Ford (Tewksbury, Mass.) placed second in the event in 10 minutes, 16.90 seconds. He was followed closely by Jared Nelson (Cranston, RI) who was fourth in 10:45.35 and Corwall, NY native Tom Casey (10.59.39) who was sixth.
In the field events, Rob Schneider (North Cornwall, Conn.) stole the show by tying a school record by clearing 13 feet to place fourth. His mark ties Brett Caldwell's record set back in 1995.
Senior Mike Nessralla (Halifax, Mass.) took three top-10 finishes in the throws for the Bulldogs, placing fourth in the men's hammer at 146 feet, 6 inches and added a fifth-place throw of 124-03 in the discus and sixth-place mark in the shot put at 40-6.
On the women's side, freshman Amanda Early (Haverhill, Mass.) continued her strong spring season by taking fifth in the women's 100 meter dash in a season-best time of 13.31 seconds. She would also place sixth in the women's 200 meters in 27.38 seconds.
Justine Douvadjian (Andover, Mass.) placed fifth in the 400 meters in 62 seconds while Yarmouthport, Mass native Jen Goodwin (19:52.43) and Kara Tranquillo of Stratford, CT (20:08.75) placed ninth and tenth respectively in the 5,000.
Nicole Radzik (Sutton, Mass.) just missed eclipsing her currently record in the women's 3,000 meter steeplechase by only a few seconds as the sophomore took first overall in a time of 12 minutes, 13.87 seconds.
Samantha Genatossio (Norwell, Mass.) set new season marks in both the women's long jump and triple jump. Genatossio took fifth in the long jump with a mark of 15 feet, 10 inches and took home third in the triple in 33 feet, 4.50 inches.
Not to be outdone, the men's 4x400 meter relay team of Zach Perron (Windham, NH), Jeff Hedberg (Guilford, CT), Brennan, and Greigre set a new school record in taking first place overall in a time of 3:24.24.
