INDOOR TRACK TEAMS FINISH SECOND AND THIRD AT SMITH
Men's Results / Women's Results
NORTH HAMPTON, Mass – Fresh off a spectacular showing at the Wesleyan Invitational last weekend, the Bryant University men’s and women’s indoor track teams continued with more strong individual efforts at Saturday’s Smith College Co-Ed Invitational at the Smith Track & Tennis Center.
The Bryant men placed second among the 12 schools competing, finishing with 152.5 points, just behind winner Williams which earned 164 points. The Bryant women placed third behind Williams and Amherst.
The men’s team saw several PR’s set,
including two new school records. Sophomore sprinter
Hafiz Greigre (right) continues to add his name to
the Bulldog school record list, only this time, instead of tearing
up the track in the sprints, the Attleboro native picked up a
record in the men’s long jump, finishing first with a mark of
22 feet, one inch. Greigre bettered Daniel Kwarteng’s
2004 indoor record of 21-10.
Greigre did earned a first place in the men’s 55 meters, winning the prelims in 6.60 second and capturing first in the finals in 6.54. Joe Brennan was third in the prelims in 6.95 seconds and placed fifth in the finals (7.05). Bryant placed three in the finals of the 55m as Lanre Oyedotun broke the tape in 7.06 seconds.
Greigre also would later add a first-place finish in the 200 meters (22.69). In the men’s 400 meters, Brennan capped off a strong day with a second-place finish in the 52.58 seconds while teammate Jeff Hedberg earned a PR with a third-place finish in 52.65 seconds.
Jozef Gallott was the story of the day as the sophomore set a new school record in the pole vault, clearing 13 feet.
Senior Caleb Paul took sixth in the men’s mile, finishing a time of 4 minutes, 30.57 seconds – Bryant’s best time in the mile this season. Corey Chapman was fourth in the 600 while senior Steve Barone earned a fifth-place finish in the 1,000 (2:39.90).
In the field events, Mike Nessralla earned a PR in the weight throw with a mark of 43 feet, 2.25 inches, good enough for fifth, while Dallas Lynch was second in the triple jump in 44-04. Also in the triple, Jonathan Richards had a PR with a third-place jump of 42-3.5.
The Bryant women were just as successful, with several PRs. Natasha Stevenson, who set a school record in the 55 meters last week with a time of 7.51 seconds at Wesleyan, came close to that time once again as she captured second in the 55m in 7.52 seconds. Amanda Early ran a personal best 7.88 seconds in the finals, finishing in eighth.
She would also add a fourth-place finish in the 200 meters in a time of 27.62 seconds.
Stevenson would not be outdone in the 200m as the junior took first in 26.25 seconds and would later add a first-place in the women’s long jump at 16 feet, 6 inches – Bryant’s best mark this winter. Also in the long jump, Samantha Genatossio turned in a PR with a fourth-place mark of 15 feet, 3.25 inches.
Justine Douvadjian placed second in the 400 meters in 1 minute, 2.96 seconds, Bryant’s second-best mark of the year while Jessica Cegarra took home third in the shot put (40 feet) and ninth in the women’s weight throw (34-8.25).
Bryant will travel to Tufts and Boston University next weekend.
