MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – Idle for more than a month, the Bryant men’s and women’s indoor track teams returned to action Saturday at the Wesleyan Cardinal Invitational where the Bulldogs showed little rust.
Three new school records fell, all coming in the sprints with Hafiz Greigre (Attleboro, MA) setting a new mark in the men’s 400 meters. Greigre, a sophomore at Bryant, captured first-place in the 400 by edging York’s Mike Brown by one-hundreth of a second. Greigre broke the tape in a school record time of 49.10 seconds with York coming in at 49.11. The mark by Greigre is also an NCAA provisional time as well.
Earlier in the day, Greigre placed fourth in the finals of the men’s 55 meter dash. Greigre turned in a preliminary time of 6.59 seconds and finished in 6.57 in the finals.
Dallas Lynch had a good meet, finishing fourth in the triple jump at 43 feet, 10 inches and earning an 11th-place finish in the long jump clearing 19-8.75. Mike Nessralla was fifth in the shot put (42-9.5) and placed seventh in the weight throw with a mark of 42-9.75.
On the women’s side, Natasha Stevenson set a pair of records for the Bulldogs. The Haverhill, MA native set a school record in the 55 meter prelims, finishing third overall in 7.56 seconds. In the finals, the sophomore improved on the mark a little more as she took third in 7.51 seconds.
Stevenson wasn’t through, however, setting a new school record later in the meet in the 400 meters in 59.93 seconds for second place in the event. Also in the track events, Nicole Radzik was third overall in the women’s 3,000 meters in a time 11 minutes, 13.07 seconds.
Junior Jessica Cegarra captured first place in the women’s shot put with a mark of 40 feet, 3.5 inches while teammate Amber Torrey was fifth at 36-2.25. Torrey also added third place finish in the women’s weight throw with a throw of 45-8.5.
