Greigre Runs 22.16 in Men's 200 Meter Prelims at Nationals to Conclude Tremendous Indoor Season

GREIGRE PLACES 16TH IN PRELIMS OF MEN'S 200 METERS AT NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP

BOSTON, Mass. -  Bryant sophomore sprinter Hafiz Greigre (Attleboro, Mass.) placed fourth in his heat of the men's 200 meter dash in 21.80 Friday evening and finishes 16th with a converted time (banked track) of 22.16, concluding a remarkable indoor season.

Greigre, the owner of five school indoor records set this winter, captured the Northeast-10 Conference 200 meter indoor title and placed third in the event at the New England Championships last month.

Competing in a very fast fourth heat of the 200 meter prelims, Greigre placed fourth in 22.16 as two other competitors in the heat qualifed for the finals which will run on Saturday.  Michael Lawrence of Minnesota State took first in 21.49 seconds and was followed by Maurice Gailey of North Carolina Central who placed second in the heat in 21.62.  Both will advance to the finals.

Zach Brown of Fort Hays was next in 21.80 followed by Greigre in 22.16.   Lawrence is the defending champion, setting a meet record last year. This year's 200 meters featured three of the top finishers from last year's national championship.

Imani Butler of Central Missouri turned in the fastest time of the four heats, blistering the Reggie Lewis Track & Athletic Center with a time of 21.26.

Greigre holds Bryant's school record in the 200 meters with a season-best time of 21.57 set at the New England Championships at Boston University last month. He broke the 22 second mark two other times, one in the New England prelims (21.87) and at Boston University's Valentine Invite (21.96) on Feb. 11.

In addition, Greigre also holds Bryant's school record in the 55 meters, 400m, 500m, and just for good measure, the men's long jump.
