CAMBRIDGE, Mass.  -  The Bryant men's and women's track & field teams battled through the elements this past weekend to place 23rd and 27th respectively out of 36 teams competing at the 2006 New England Outdoor Track & Field Championships at M.I.T.'s Steinbrenner Track.

Though only a handful of Bulldogs competed in the rain-shortened meet, there were three new school records set.  Freshman Rachel Martinich (Fairfield, Conn.) continues to excel in her first year at Bryant.

Following a pair of record-setting performances in the past two weeks at both Brown Springtime Invitational and Northeast-10 Conference Championship where she set a new school javelin record with a mark of 121 feet, 7 inches, Martinich set the standard even higher Saturday with a third-place school record throw of 132-5.   The mark is just shy of an NCAA Division II Championship provisional of 133 feet.

Randi Cuccaro of Southern Connecticut won the overall event with a throw of 137-11.

Nicole Radzik (Sutton, MA) improved on her current school record in women's 3,000 meter steeplechase by finishing in a hand-timed 12 minutes, 1.3 seconds for 23rd.   Junior Natasha Stevenson (Haverhill, MA) placed ninth in the finals of the women's 200 meter dash in 25.43 seconds.

On the men's side, senior distance standout Caleb Paul (Addison, Maine) concluded his career in style Saturday. Paul, who set the school record in the men's 5,000 meters as a sophomore in 2003 (15 minutes 13 seconds), erased that mark with a new time of 15:09.71 to finish ninth overall on Saturday.   This past winter, Paul also set the new indoor 5,000m record of 15:15.77 at the NE-10 Indoor Championships.

Sophomore sprinter Hafiz Greigre (Attleboro, Mass.) placed second in the finals of the men's 200 meters in 21.63 seconds.
