PROVIDENCE - Under sunny skies and a swirling wind, the Bryant University men's and women's track & field team set four new school marks Sunday afternoon at the Brown University Springtime Invitational.  In what would be the final tune-up prior to the Northeast-10 Conference Championship which Bryant will host this weekend, the Bulldogs turned in several season-best marks on the afternoon with two records falling in the sprints and two more in field competition.

Leading the way was sophomore Hafiz Greigre (Attleboro, Mass.) who improved on his school record in the 400 meter dash of last year by winning the event Sunday in a time of 48.26 seconds.  Greigre, who ran 48.31 last spring, bettered his season-best of 48.81 set earlier this season by crossing the line just ahead of Northeastern's Jonathan Watkins. Watkins placed second in 49 seconds flat.  Greigre's time qualifies him for the New England Championship later this month and pulls him even closer to the NCAA provisional mark of 48.00.

Freshman Brian Ford (Tewksbury, MA) took seventh in the men's 800 meters in a new personal best time of 1 minute, 59.42 seconds - nearly seven seconds better than his previous best.

Junior Rob Schneider (North Cornwall, Conn.), fresh off setting the school record in the pole vault by clearing 13 feet last week at M.I.T., improved the mark even further Sunday by clearing 13 feet, 3.5 inches.   Also in the field events, Jeff Hedberg (Guilford, Conn.) cleared 6 feet, 1.25 inches in placing fourth in the men's high jump while senior standout Mike Nessralla (Halifax, Mass.) placed 11th in the men's hammer throw with a season-best mark of 147 feet, 2 inches.

On the women's side, two more records fell as junior Natasha Stevenson (Haverhill, Mass.) lowered her previous school best in the 200 meter dash by nearly a second to place sixth in 25.79 seconds.  Earlier this year, she ran 26.24 in a hand-timed meet at Rhode Island College.

Freshman Rachel Martinich (Fairfield, Conn.) continued her fine outdoor season in the women's javelin throw.  After throwing a season-best 109 feet, 4 inches last week at M.I.T., Martinich broke Bryant's two year old record in the event with a throw of 113 feet, 6 inches Sunday at Brown, placing ninth.  For her efforts, Martinich was named the Northeast-10 Conference Freshman Field Athlete of the Week.
