NE-10 TRACK & FIELD ATHLETES OF THE WEEK
Greigre Named MVP of Conference Championship
SMITHFIELD, RI (May 9, 2006) -- Bryant University sophomore track & field standout Hafiz Greigre (Attleboro, Mass.) was named the Northeast-10 Conference Men's Track Athlete of the Week following an amazing performance at the conference track & field championships over the weekend. Greigre, an NCAA Indoor National Championship qualifier this past weekend, continued his impressive outdoor season by winning both the men's 100 meter dash (10.82 seconds) and 200 meter dash in a season-best time of 21.53 seconds.
In addition, Greigre (right) set a new school record in placing
second in the men's long jump with a leap of 23 feet. Perhaps
the highlight of the afternoon came in the final event of the day,
the men's 4 x 400 meter relay. Greigre, running the final
leg, led the Bulldogs to a first-place finish in a school-record
time of 3 minutes, 22 seconds, eclipsing the previous mark by more
than two seconds and meeting New England qualifying standards.
Ford, a freshman from Tewksbury, Mass., was named the Northeast-10 Men's Track Freshman of the Week after placing fourth in the 3,000 meter steeplechase in a personal-best time of 10 minutes, 10.51 seconds. Martinich, a freshman from Fairfield, Conn., set a new school record in the women's javelin throw of 121 feet, 7 inches to place third.
In addition, senior Mike Nessralla (Halifax, Mass.) was named to the weekly conference honor roll after finishing first in the men's discus throw with a season-best mark of 147-11. Nicole Radzik (Manchaug, MA) and Natasha Stevenson (Haverhill, MA) were also named to the weekly honor roll. Radzik won the women's 3,000 meter steeplechase in a school-record time of 12:08.07 while Stevenson was first in the 200 meter dash in 25.05 and second in the 100 meter dash.
