Bulldogs Idle Until Wesleyan Invitational in Late January
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - The Bryant University men's and women's indoor track & field teams, competing for just the second time this indoor season, turned in another solid team performance at the Harvard University Invitational Saturday at the Gordon Track & Tennis Center. For the Bulldogs, the results are a good sign as the team's head into the winter break.
The Bulldogs looked strong in both the track events and field events on Saturday, with several setting new PR's and a few more school records set.
Sprinters Natasha Stevenson and Hafiz Greigre showed midseason form with Stevenson reaching the finals of the 60 meter dash in 8.05 seconds and later placing third overall in the 200 meters in a time of 25.92. In fact, the Haverhill, Mass. native was the top collegiate finisher in the 200m with the top two spots going to unattached runners from local clubs.
Greigre, a senior from Attleboro, Mass., placed second in the 60 meter dash in 6.94 seconds and later captured first place in the 200 meters in a time of 21.97 seconds. Greigre's time in the 60m sets another school record for the Bulldog standout. Curt Markinac was 10th in 23.40.
Joe Brennan of East Providence (La Salle) placed fourth in the 400 meters in 50.19 seconds, a new personal best.
In the hurdles, Stephanie Kirk and Lianna Greig, both freshmen, qualified for the finals in the 60 meter hurdles with Kirk placing fifth in 9.73 seconds and Greig close behind in seventh in 10.13 seconds. Jonathan Richards reached the finals of the men's 60 meter hurdles, finishing 13th in 9.09 seconds.
Newcomer Stephanie Montagano, competing for the first time since transferring from Lasell College in Boston, set a new school record with a third place showing in the women's 400 meters in a time of 59.78 seconds.
In the middle distance, Alex Engel earned a top-15 spot in the 500 meters in 1:08.19 while Corey Chapman and Nathaniel Green ran well in the 800 meters, finishing 16th and 17th in 2:02.13 and 2:03.01 respectively.
Nicole Radzik, a cross country national qualifier last fall, ran a personal best in the 5000m, finishing second overall in 18:21.
Bryant's men's 4 x 400 meter relay team of Matt Cyr, Engel, Brennan and Greigre took home fourth in 3:24.94.
In the field events, Cyr, a freshman, set a new school record in the men's pole vault by clearing 13 feet, 6 inches to take eighth, while Jozeph Gallot (the previous record holder) and Rob Schneider each cleared 13 feet to place ninth.
Sarah Giffard, another freshman standout, placed 15th in the triple jump and looked strong in the high jump. Stevenson took fifth in the long jump.
Junior Amber Torrey and sophomore Rachel Martinich led the way in the throwing events. The duo placed 10th and 11th in the shot put with Torrey throwing a day's best of 10.54 meters and Martinich not far behind at 10.23 meters.
Torrey, who captured first in the weight throw at Northeastern a week ago, took fourth in the event at 14.59 meters.
On the men's side, sophomore Steven Haskell had a personal best in the shot put at 11.41 meters with Jon Joiner next at 10.88 meters.
