Records Fall For Men's and Women's Indoor Track at Smith Invite

RECORDS FALL AT SMITH INVITATIONAL
NORTHAMPTON, Mass. - The Bryant women's indoor track & field team dominated the field in earning first place at Saturday's Smith College Invitational. The Bulldogs earned 124 total points, well ahead of second-place Assumption (72) and third-place finisher WPI (62). The Bulldog men came up just shy of WPI (147 points) with a second-place finish with 112 points.
Leading the way for the women was Stephanie Montagno
(Wakefield, MA) who took first in the 400 meters in a time
of one minute, 1.24 seconds. Justine Douvandjian
(Andover, MA) was second in 62.42 seconds.
Senior Natasha Stevenson (Haverhill, MA) took first in the 200 meters in 26.45 seconds after setting a new school record earlier in the day in the 55 meters by placing second in the event in 7.46 seconds.
Junior Nicole Radzik (Manchaug, MA) ran a strong race in the 3,000 meters, crossing the line in 10:36.92.
The Bryant men were led by sprinter Hafiz Greigre (Attleboro, MA) who had another fine afternoon for the Bulldogs. Greigre, who ran an NCAA provisional time in the 200 meters last week at Wesleyan, took first in three events Saturday at Smith. The Attleboro, MA native blazed to a first in the 55 meter dash in 6.47 seconds and took first in the 200 in a time of 21.93 seconds.
Later, Greigre would take first in the men's long jump, clearing 21 feet, 2.75 inches. Football standouts Lorenzo Perry (Providence, RI) and Michael Morgan (Warwick, RI), competing for the first time indoors, had a strong day. Perry was sixth in the 55m in 6.75 while Morgan was close behind in 6.78 seconds.
East Providence's Joe Brennan took third in the 400 meters in 51.84, just enough to edge teammate and freshman Alex Engel (Spencer, MA) who was fourth in 51.88.
In the distance events, freshman Austin Huminski (Oyster Bay, NY) was fourth in the 1,000 meters in 2:47.22 while classmate Nathaniel Green (Yorke, ME) took second in the 5,000m in 16:20.32.
The men's and women's relay squads also looked strong. The women's 4x200 meter relay team of Lianna Greig (Yorke, ME) , Douvadjian, Montagano, and Stevenson set a school record with a first place finish in 1:40.06
The 4x400 meter took top honors in a time of 4:17.75. The men's 4x200 meter relay team of Curtis Markinac (Ashland, MA), Engel, Brennan, and Greigre was victorious with a first place time of 1:31.29, less than a second off the school record.
In the field events, Morgan capped a strong day by setting a new school record in the men's high jump, clearing six feet, four inches while David Cozcenza ( cleared 5-10 for a personal best. In the pole vault, another record fell as Rob Schneider (North Cornwall,CT) cleared 13 feet, 5.75 inches to finish second. Jozef Gallot (Scarborough, ME) was fourth (12-6).
Jonathan Joiner (Hyde Park, MA) picked up a personal best in the shot put with a mark of 36 feet, 6.25 inches, just edging teammate Steven Haskell (East Bridgewater, MA) (36-0.25).
In the women's mile, Casey Fenwick (Wayland, MA) was fourth in 5:40.12 while Amanda Staples (Blackstone, MA) took tenth in the 800m in 2:48.28. In the high jump, Sarah Giffard (North Yarmouth, ME) set a new mark by clearing 5 feet, 2.25 inches to earn second while Rebecca Lange and Monika Sattler were eighth and ninth respectively.
