TRACK OPENS OUTDOOR SEASON AT RHODE ISLAND COLLEGE

PROVIDENCE - The Bryant men's and women's track & field teams opened the 2008 outdoor season Saturday afternoon at the Rhode Island College Invitational.  On a chilly afternoon, the Bulldogs opened strong with several top finishes.

In the field events, Amber Torrey took home second in the women's shot put (10.31 meters). Rebecca Lange and Rachel Martinich placed fourth and fifth in the event. Torrey would later finish third in the discus throw and fourth in the hammer.

Martinich had a good day in her main event, finishing first in the javelin throw (38.91) while battling cold temperatures on the day. Lange would take third.   Melanie Farbotko took second in the high jump, clearing 1.32 meters.  Abigail Petersen and Mary Sanker were one and two in the pole vault.

In the track events, Stephanie Montagano (13.10) and Sherika Nicholas (13.80) were first and second in the 100m and later in the 200m.  Jennifer Denise was a winner in the 800 meters (2.36.44).

On the men's side, Steven Haskell earned a first place finish in the hammer throw and a pair of second-place finishes in the shot and discus while Mike Hulls, Peter Gooding, and Jonathan Joiner were first, second, and third respectively.  Hull had a best throw of 48.82 meters.

In the sprints, Thomas O'Connor was first in the 100 meters in 11.27 seconds with Andrew Fitzgerald taking fourth (11.77).  O'Connor also took home a first place finish in the 200 meters (22.29) with Mike DiBella taking a close second in 22.88 seconds.
