MEN'S AND WOMEN'S TRACK & FIELD COMPETE AT NEW ENGLAND CHAMPIONSHIPS
DURHAM, N.H. - The Bryant University men's and women's track & field teams took part in the 2008 New England Championships over the weekend at the University of New Hampshire. The men's team, led by the standout performance of Alex Engel, placed 17th out of 37 teams competing with 18 points. The women placed 21st out of 31 teams with 10 points.
Engel captured first place honors in the men's 400 meters on Saturday. The sophomore from Spencer, MA placed first in the prelims in a time of 48.50 seconds and followed with another first in the finals, this time in 47.80 seconds.
Andrew Fitzgerald placed seventh in the prelims of the 400 meter hurdles in 55.14 and earned a sixth-place finish in the finals in 54.88. The men's 4x400 meter relay team took sixth in 3:18.06. Thomas O'Connor had a solid day in the 200. The freshman from Westwood, MA placed seventh in the prelims of the 200 meters in 22.05 and took seventh in the finals in 22.26.
On the women's side, Stephanie Montagano (Wakefield, MA) placed third overall in the 400 meter prelims, crossing the line in 57.62. She would take home second in the finals with a time of 57.52. Nicole Radzik (Sutton, MA) placed 13th in the 5,000 meters in a school record time of 17:35.26 and took seventh in the 3,000 meter steeplechase in 11 minutes, 25 seconds.
