TRACK & FIELD HEADS TO BROWN INVITATIONAL SATURDAY

MEN'S BEST MARKS / WOMEN'S BEST MARKSBROWN INVITE SCHEDULE

The Bryant University men's and women's track & field teams will return to action this Saturday when the Bulldogs head down to Providence to take part in the Brown Invitational.  The meet will take place at Brown Stadium beginning at 9:30 am with the men's and women's javelin throw.  The running events will kickoff at 11 am with the women's 3000 meters.

The Bulldogs are coming off a strong performance last week at the Stonehill Skyhawk Invitational.  Despite battling blustery cold conditions, several athletes turned in solid times on the year.

Freshman Kat Ragone (Bourne, MA) ran a season-best in the 1500 meters in 5:07.85 and has the team's best time in the 5000m of 19:08.69 set at the Bryant Invitational two weeks ago.  Freshman Amy Hutchinson (Exeter, RI / Exeter-West Greenwich) had a big day at Stonehill setting personal-bests in both the long jump and triple jump.  Hutchinson placed 19th in the long jump at 16 feet, 1.75 inches and followed with a leap of 33-05.25 in the triple, good enough for 11th.

The Bryant men will be looking to set several new best marks this weekend and continue to chase several school marks that are well within reach.  Fielding arguably one of the most experienced teams in recent years, the Bulldogs have strength throughout the sprints, middle distance and distance events as well as in the relays.

Sophomore Tom O'Connor (Westwood, MA) is coming off a first-place finish in the men's 200 meters (22.60) last weekend at Stonehill and a second-place finish in the 100m in 11.12 seconds.  In only his second season competing, O'Connor's also chasing the school mark in the 400 meters, owning the team-best time in the event of 48.95 seconds, just behind Hafiz Greigre's mark of 48.31 set in 2005.

Alex Engel (Spencer, MA) has also been strong for the Bulldogs in several events this year.  The junior is right with O'Connor in chasing Greigre's mark in the 400m.  Engel has the second-best time so far this year on the team with a third-place finish in 49.21 at the Bryant Invitational on March 28.

Both O'Connor and Engel, along with Michael DiBella (Upper Saddle River, NJ) and Andrew Fitzgerald (New Hartford, CT) are closing in on the school mark in the 4x400 meter relay of 3:17.65.  The quartet own a best time of 3:20.90 set this year at the Bryant Invite.  Engel, as a freshman, helped set that school-record back in 2007.

Co-captain Tom Casey (Cornwall, NY) has been strong in the distance events.  The senior has the team's second-best time in the 5000 meters and wasted little time setting the school record in the 10,000 meters with a time of 32:39.47 set in the first outdoor meet of the year at Northeastern on March 21.

Following Saturday's meet, the Bulldogs will travel to the Holy Cross Invitational on April 18.
