Bryant T&F welcomes Taylor Bernstein to coaching staff

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Bryant University Athletics and Director of Cross Country/Track and Field Mitch Switzer are excited to welcome Taylor Bernstein as the new graduate assistant for the track and field teams. He will work primarily with the throwers.

"I'm happy to welcome Taylor to our staff," Switzer said. "Taylor brings with him a technical approach to his coaching which I feel will benefit our athletes greatly. His enthusiasm for the sport and understanding of what it takes to compete at a high level will be a great addition to our staff. His student-athlete based philosophy resonated well, and really fits the Bryant University Athletics Mission."

Bernstein joins the Bulldogs after spending the 2016-17 season as the throws coach at Rider University. The Broncs throwers thrived under his tutelage as they broke two school records and had 11 qualify for the ECAC/IC4A Championships.

Prior to his time at Rider, Bernstein spent a year as the throws coach at Stevens Institute of Technology. He oversaw a group of throwers that set four school records, had one conference champion and five ECAC qualifiers. In addition, one of his student-athletes broke the conference record in the shot put.

Bernstein is also the head coach/owner of Thrower Nation Track Club. He instructs over 30 throwers during the year and has coached two Team USA selections, one Team Ecuador selection, one Master's World Medalist, 10 national champions and 79 All-American selections.

A four-year member of the track and field program at Monmouth University, Bernstein graduated in 2015 with a bachelor's degree in physical education/health studies. He qualified for the NCAA Preliminary Round in the shot put and discus, and was named the MAAC Outdoor Track and Field Most Outstanding Field Performer as a senior. He was a three-time IC4A qualifier, was the 2015 MAAC champion in the shot put and discus, and holds the school record in the discus.

Bernstein holds USATF Level II certification in throws, USATF Level II certification in jumps, USAW Level I Sports Performance Coach certification and is First Aid and CPR/AED certified.
