Skiba’s Runner Leads Bryant to Victory

WEST HAVEN, CONN. – Joanna Skiba’s (Providence, RI) runner with 30 seconds left led Bryant to a 66-64 non-league victory over the University of New Haven today in a game played in West Haven.
Bryant (5-1, 3-1 Northeast-10) who led by as much as 11 in the first half would find themselves down by as much as eight in the second before pulling out the win. Skiba scored 13 of her game-high 22 in the second half including 7-of-7 from the free throw line.
The Bulldogs built their first lead late in the first when Skiba hit a lay-up at the 2:39 mark to extend their lead to nine. Bryant would make it 11 when Dede Fogarty (Middletown, Conn.) hit two free-throws at 2:05 mark. New Haven would charge late and make the halftime score 32-27.
New Haven started the second half on an 11-2 run to take a six point led three minutes into the second half .The Chargers would extend it by as much as eight before Bryant would tie the game at the 1:41 mark with a Skiba jumper. They then closed it out on her runner.
Fogarty finished the game with 14 points and five rebounds, while Megan Peper (Castleton, NY) finished with eight points and four rebounds.
Bryant shot 37.7 percent (23-of-61) from the field including 81.8 percent (18-of-22) from the free-throw line. New Haven shot 42.3 percent (22-of-52) from the field and 70.0 percent (14-of-20) from the free-throw line.
Bryant will return to action Sunday, December 12 when they host Northeast-10 Conference foe Stonehill. Tip-off is set for 1:30PM.
