Skiba Nets Career High But Bulldogs Fall to Lowell 89-83
February 2, 2005
LOWELL, MASS - Joanna Skiba scored a career-high 26 points but it was not enough as the UMass Lowell River Hawks used a strong offensive performance to hold off the Bulldogs down the stretch to win 89-83 here Wednesday.
The Bulldogs (13-8, 8-8 NE-10) trailed 44-34 at the half as UMass Lowell shot a blistering 65.5 percent from the floor in the first half. Early in the second, UMass Lowell led 50-39 early, but a 10-0 run keyed by a three from Skiba and another deep three from Dede Fogarty (18 points) helped pull the Bulldogs to within one at 50-49.
Moments later, the Bulldogs tied the game at 52-52 following a steal a layup by Fogarty, but the Bulldogs would never gain the lead as Lowell used solid shooting inside to hold off Bryant down the stretch.
Lowell finished the game shooting 54.4 percent while Bryant made 49.1 percent from the field and 22 of 29 from the foul line.
Bryant will return home to host Southern New Hampshire on Saturday at 1:30 p.m.
