Bulldogs Fall in Overtime, Fogarty Scores 1,000th

SMITHFIELD, RI ? The Bryant University women?s basketball fell to the Stonehill College Chieftains 83-75 in overtime today in Northeast-10 Conference game played at the Chace Athletic Center.
Today?s game saw Bryant senior Dede Fogarty (Middletown, Conn.) score her1,000th career point. She finished with a game-high 20 points, five rebounds, and four assists.
The first half saw Bryant (5-2, 3-2 NE-10) take a lead by as much as nine. The Bulldogs built their lead late as both teams traded early baskets. Joanna Skiba (Providence, RI) expanded the Bryant lead to six when she hit a three-pointer with three minutes remaining. Bryant then made the led nine when Erin Murphy?s (Albany, NY) three-pointer made it 30-21. Stonehill would make a late run and make the halftime score 34-27 Bryant.
Bryant would continue to lead in the second half, but never got it larger then seven. The Bulldogs would make the lead seven for the last time off a Fogarty jumper with six minutes left. From there the Chieftains would battle back when they used a Tiffany Huggins lay-up to make it 63-60 with 3:45 remaining. They would then tie it at 65 with another Huggins lay-up. Then with 14 seconds left Bryant got a three-point led on two Lindsay Hermann (Bristol, Conn.) free-throws. Stonehill (6-1, 3-1 NE-10) sent the game into overtime when Erika Stupinski prayer with 1.7 seconds left went in making it 71-71.
Stonehill took control right from the tip as Rachel Wile scored start the period. The Chieftains would outscore Bryant 12-4 in the period and win 83-75.
Hermann chipped in with 16 points and nine rebounds, while Murphy added 10 points and six rebounds.
Stonehill had five players score in double-figures. They were led by Wile?s 15 points and 15 rebounds, while Alisha Collins added 14 points and six rebounds.
Bryant will return to action next Monday, December 20 when they host Dominican College in a non-league match-up. Tip-off is set for 5:00PM.
