Women's Basketball Falls to Franklin Pierce 54-52

SMITHFIELD, RI ? The Franklin Pierce College beat Bryant University 54-52 in a Northeast-10 Conference game played today at the Chace Athletic Center.
The beginning of the first half saw both teams turn the ball over a few times with both teams combining for 19 in the half. Franklin Pierce (11-8, 8-7 NE-10) would take the biggest lead of the half 23-12 with five minute remaining. Bryant (13-7, 8-7 NE-10) would close the half on a 9-2 run to make the halftime score 25-21. The run included jumper from Joanna Skiba (Providence, RI) and a three-pointer which closed out the half.
The Bulldogs would start the second half on an 11-0 run to take a 32-25 lead with 16 minutes to go. The spurt included a three-pointer and jumper from Dede Fogarty (Middletown, Conn.). But the Ravens would chip away at lead, eventually knotting the game at 42-42 with six minutes to go.
The Bulldogs would answer, however, as the team jumped ahead by six following two Nancy Marrero (Middletown, Conn.) free throws making it 52-47 with 1:31 to go. From there the Ravens who hold the Bulldogs scoreless to take home the win 54-52.
The Ravens were lead by Heather Jones who scored 15 points and Mollie Stelmack who notched nine. Bryant was lead by Skiba?s 12 points and Fogarty?s 11.
Bryant will return to action next Wednesday, February 2, when they travel to UMass Lowell in a Northeast-10 Conference match-up. Tip-off is set for 5:30PM at Lowell.
