SMITHFIELD, RI – Shannon Perry scored 26
points and grabbed 13 rebounds to lead the Bryant University
women’s basketball team to a 70-55 win over Merrimack College
in the final game of the 2005-06 season for the Bulldogs.
Bryant ends its season, 9-18 overall and 6-16 in the
Northeast-10.
With six three-point field goals, Bryant set a new school
single season record for made three-pointers in a season with 138
as the Bulldogs made 6 of 22 from beyond the arc.
The Bulldogs led 35-29 at the half and used a 9-2 run to open
the second half and never trailed. Freshman Alyssa Michella
came off the bench and scored 12 points, all on three-point shots
as the guard made 4 of 8 three’s in the.
Merrimack (8-22, 5-17 NE-10) got 12 points from
guards Joelle Martin and Takeya Faison, but turned the ball over 23
times in the game.
The Bulldogs went a perfect 16 for 16 from line
in the game as Perry, playing in her final game since joining the
Bulldogs this season, made 12 of 12 from the free throw line.
Perry finishes the season with a school record 12.7 rebounds per
game average.
Prior to the start of the game, the Bulldogs
honored their four seniors including senior Pamela Malcolm who
scored Bryant’s first basket of the game before a near
capacity crowd at the Chace Athletic Center.
It was the first points in her career as she will graduate this
May from Bryant University. Malcolm, one of the top high
school players in the history of Connecticut school-girl
basketball, was seriously injured in a car accident just prior to
arriving at Bryant University.
