Bryant University To Forfeit Four Women's Basketball Games Due To Ineligible Player During 2005-06 Season

SMITHFIELD, RI -  The Bryant University Department of Athletics & Recreation has announced it has forfeited four victories by its women's basketball team for using an ineligible player.

The player, Shannon Perry, was admitted to Bryant as a transfer student in the beginning of September 2005.  She had received a degree in sociology from Syracuse University and was seeking a bachelor of arts in communication at Bryant.

"Bryant discovered the ineligibility after a follow up when the conference sought a clarification of her status," said Interim Director of Athletics John Ruppert.  "Bryant has self-reported this secondary violation to the NCAA and the Northeast-10 Conference."

She will not be eligible to play pending her acceptance into graduate school at Bryant.  A decision should be made prior to the start of second semester next week.

The team will relinquish non-conference victories over St. Thomas Aquinas on Dec. 28 and Southern N.H. on Dec. 29 and Northeast-10 Conference wins over Assumption College Jan. 2 and Merrimack College Jan. 10.

The forfeits drop Bryant's record to 3-13 overall and 0-11 in the Northeast-10 Conference. The Bulldogs will host the College of Saint Rose on Saturday, Jan. 21 at 1:30 pm at the Chace Athletic Center.
