BRYANT DOMINATES IN EXHIBITION, 56-43 OVER BISHOP'S UNIVERSITY SATURDAY NIGHT; OPENS SEASON AT UNH NOV. 14
SMITHFIELD, R.I. - Led by 12 points of 6-for-7 shooting from the floor from sophomore forward Siamone Bennett (Newburgh, N.Y.), the Bryant University women's basketball team earned a 56-43 win over Bishop's University Saturday night at the Chace Athletic Center.
The Bulldogs led the whole way in their final tune-up before their season opener Nov. 14 at the University of New Hampshire to mark Bryant's entrance onto the Division I scene. Last season's leading scorer and rebounder, junior captain Kelsey O'Keefe (Warren, Mass.) registered nine points and five boards in the win, while senior Stephanie Fontaine (Franklin, Mass.) and junior Courtney Schermerhorn (Lowell, Mass.) paced the home team on the glass with six apiece.
Senior captain Cara Johnson (Endicott, N.Y.) and freshman Lekia Cowen (Hopedale, Mass.) each chipped in seven points on the evening.
The Gaiters were paced by 11 points from Katy Germain, while seven rebounds from Amanda Piribauer were a game high.
Bryant shot 40 percent from the floor to Bishop's 28 percent. Bennett registered two blocks on the day.
