WOMEN'S LACROSSE DEFEATS SOUTHERN CONNECTICUT 22-6 SATURDAY
SMITHFIELD, R.I. - Seniors Amanda Gallant (Andover, Mass.) and Shaun Leddy (Sea Girt, NJ) each scored four goals while sophomore Delia Glover (Marston Mills, Mass.) also added four goals of her own to help lead the Bryant women's lacrosse team to a 22-6 Northeast-10 Conference win over Southern Connecticut here Saturday at Bulldog Stadium.
The Bulldogs (6-3, 5-2 NE-10), looking to rebound from Tuesday's 19-9 loss at fourth-ranked Stonehill, fell behind 1-0 early as Southern Connecticut's Allison Ahearn (Farmingville, NY) scored just over minute into the match to put the visiting Owls on top. But it was all Bryant from there as the Bulldogs rattled off eight unanswered goals jump out to an 8-1 advantage.
Caitlin Hansen (Spring Lake, NJ) evened things up with a goal to tie the game 1-1 after taking a nice feed from Leddy. Leddy would put the Bulldogs up 2-1 moments later with a quick goal in front. Hansen's goal helped kick start and eight-goal outburst that put the Bulldogs up 8-1. After Leddy's third tally of the half the Owls got three unanswered goals of their own from Allison Kownacki (Orange, Conn.) to make it an 8-4 game.
But that would be as close as Southern Connecticut (2-6, 2-4 NE-10) would get as three more Bryant goals gave the Bulldogs an 11-5 cushion at the half and 10-straight goals to start the second half put the game away. Bryant will host New Haven Monday night at 7 p.m. in a makeup game from a postponement earlier this season.
