FOURTH-RANKED ADELPHI DEFEATS BRYANT WOMEN 24-12
Boxscore
SMITHFIELD, R.I. - Junior Lindsey Cann
(Danvers, Mass.) scored a game-high five goals while
senior Caitlin Hansen (Spring Lake, NY) scored
four times - including the 100th of her career, but it was not
enough as fourth-ranked Adelphi pulled away late to post a 24-12
win over Bryant in a non-conference women's lacrosse game Saturday
at the Bryant Turf Field Complex.
Both teams traded goals in the midway through the first half as three free position goals by Cann helped Bryant pull even with the Panthers, 4-4 twenty minutes into the game. Adelphi (13-2) would counter with two quick goals from Lauren Lopez and Allison Tumulty to pull in front 6-4 lead, but Bryant's Lauren Carlisle (San Diego, Calif.) answered with a goal of her own to trim the lead down to one. The senior took a feed from Amanda Gallant (Andover, Mass.) from behind the cage and beat Panther goalie Allyson Murphy with a high one-timer to make it a 6-5 game.
Bryant (9-5) trailed 18-7 but stormed back to score five consecutive goals to make it 18-12 with eleven minutes to play. Carlisle used her height advantage in front to tally two goals while Cann added a pair of her own and senior Shaun Leddy (Sea Girt, NJ) sliced through the Adelphi defense for a goal to help key the spurt.
Freshman Chelsea Pettingill (South Portland, Maine) made 14 saves in net for the Bulldogs who will host a first round Northeast-10 Conference game this Wednesday afternoon at 4 p.m. at Bulldog Stadium.
Prior to the game, Bryant honored six seniors as part of "Senior Day" including: Leddy, Carlisle, Gallant, Caitlin Gardner (Shrewsbury, Mass.) and Ashley Hegarty (Andover, Mass.).
