NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. - Freshman Tamara Bender (Mount Vernon, NH / Souhegan HS) scored a career-best six goals and senior Caitlin Hansen (Spring Lake, NJ) netted four as the Bryant University women's lacrosse team picked up a 16-7 win over Merrimack College Wednesday night at Warrior Field.
The win, Bryant's third in-a-row, improves the team's record to 6-3 overall and 4-1 in the Northeast-10. The Bulldogs will stay on the road and travel to Colchester, VT this Saturday to face the Purple Knights of Saint Michael's in another key NE-10 game starting at 1 p.m.
The Bulldogs broke open a tight contest late in the first half as two goals from Bender and Lauren Albert (South Windsor, CT) helped Bryant turn a 2-2 game into a 6-2 lead with just under nine minutes to go before halftime. Kelly Pasquantonio (four goals) scored back-to-back goals in a two minute span to help pull the Warriors back to 6-4 but a goal by Kaitlyn McCabe (Bourne, ME) helped give the visitors a 7-4 lead at the half.
In the second half, Hansen, this week's NE-10 Player of the Week, scored two more goals while Delia Glover (Marston Mills, MA) added a free position tally as the Bulldogs out-scored the Warriors 9 to 3.
The Bulldogs had 27 total shots to Merrimack's 25 as Jessica Bolton (Belgrade Lakes, ME) made 10 saves in net.
