WOMEN'S LACROSSE DEFEATS SAINT MICHAEL'S 15-9 SATURDAY
COLCHESTER, Vt.- The Bryant women's lacrosse team picked up a big 15-9 win on the road Saturday at Saint Michael's College. Caitlin Hansen (Spring Lake, NJ) had four goals and Delia Glover (Marston Mills, MA) added three to pace the Bulldogs to the win. Bryant hosts Stonehill under the lights on Tuesday at 7:00 p.m.
Senior attacker Brynne Curran (Cape Elizabeth, Maine/Cape Elizabeth) was one of two players with three goals for Saint Michael's (5-2, 3-1) , and in the process, set a new record for points in a career in the program's 25-year history with 158 points. Curran, with 41 points on the year, passed Amanda Lohin's ('03) mark of 156 points on Saturday afternoon, as the Purple Knights' four-game win-streak came to an end.
Converting their first five shots into goals, the Bulldogs (7-3, 5-1 NE-10) jumped out to a 5-0 lead before Saint Michael's got on the scoreboard. Junior midfielder Delia Glover (Marston Mills, Mass./Barnstable) scored her hat trick of goals within the first six minutes to help Bryant to a 9-7 halftime lead. Senior midfielder Caitlin Hansen (Spring Lake, N.Y./Manasquan) led all scorers with five points on four goals and one helper.
Freshman attacker Tamara Bender (Mount Vernon, N.H./Souhegan) also chipped in four goals to push her first-year total to 20 goals. Sophomore goalkeeper Jessica Bolton (Belgrade Lakes, Maine/Scarborough) also improved her season mark to 7-3 with three saves on the afternoon.
For the Purple Knights, senior Amanda Soule (Hartland, Vt./Woodstock Union) matched Curran's trio of goals, all of which contributed to a 7-4 run to end the first half. Saint Michael's closed the gap to one early in the second half with junior Amanda Pelley's (Mashpee, Mass./Falmouth) 18th goal of the season, but five straight from the Bulldogs sealed their eighth straight triumph over the Purple Knights. After allowing five quick goals in the first half, senior goalkeeper Courtney Wakem (Tiverton, R.I./Tiverton) went on to make eight in the game, including seven in the first frame.
