SIX BULLDOGS EARN NE-10 CONFERENCE WEEKLY HONORS
SMITHFIELD, RI -- Six Bryant University athletes from four different teams were awarded weekly honors by the Northeast-10 Conference for their play from March 24-31. Led by a trio of Player of the Week accolades, the Bulldogs were recognized in men's and women's lacrosse, softball, and track and field.
Leading the Bulldogs to a 2-1 week on the lacrosse field with 16 goals and a pair of assists, senior Caitlin Hansen (Spring Lake, NJ) earned her first Player of the Week honor and third for the women's lacrosse team in the 2008 campaign. Hansen scored four goals in Bryant's 17-16 overtime loss to Bentley College before scoring seven and five in wins over Franklin Pierce and Assumption, respectively.
On the men's side, senior goalkeeper Michael Kennedy (Port Jefferson Station, NY) earned his second NE-10 Goalkeeper of the Week accolade after a 2-0 week that saw him allow just five goals in a pair of starts. Kennedy registered 15 saves on 28 shots in the team's 8-5 win over Saint Michael's.
Bulldog junior Stephanie Montagano (Wakefield, Mass.) notched Bryant's first track Athlete of the Week, taking a pair of first-place finishes away from the Rhode Island College Invitational, March 29. Mantagano's time of 26.70 earned her the gold in the 200 meter, while her 13.10 sprint in the 100-meter dash was also good for first place.
Joining Montagano in track and field's weekly honors is freshman Thomas O'Connor (Westwood, Mass.). The rookie earned Co-Freshman of the Week accolades with a pair of top-times of his own at the RIC Invitational, winning the 100-meter dash (11.27) as well as the 200 meter (22.52).
Softball junior Kate Thomas (Bedford, NH) and senior Janine Enos (Wareham, Mass.) round out Bryant's awards, capturing Player and Pitcher of the Week for their work on the diamond in the Bulldogs' 4-2 week.
Thomas hit .636 with four extra base hits for the week, going 5-for-5 from the plate in a doubleheader sweep of Pace. Against the Setters, Thomas hit a pair of triples, a home run and a double to drive in three and cross the plate four times herself.
Enos went 3-1 from the hill on the week with a 0.91 ERA. The
senior won both games in Thursday's Franklin Pierce doubleheader,
in which she struck out eight and retired the final 13 batters.
Enos tossed three complete games, striking out 26 in 23 innings on
the week.
