SMITHFIELD, R.I. -- Senior goalie Brianna Watt (Babylon, N.Y.) picked up her first Northeast Conference weekly honor of the season Monday, named the year's first Defensive Player of the Week.
Watt made 22 saves in a trio of games to start of the 2014 season 2-1 overall, including leading the team to the program's first-ever victory over Holy Cross. The senior netminder made five saves, including two in overtime and one on a one-on-one breakaway to keep the Bulldogs tied en route to its 8-7 overtime win over the Crusaders on the road in the season opener. The veteran then turned away nine in an 11-7 road win over Siena six days later, and added eight stops despite a loss to Albany in the Bulldogs' home opener. Overall, Watt faced 73 shots through her first three outings.
The Bulldogs take on Manhattan on the road Saturday, March 1 at 5:00 p.m.
