SOMERSET, N.J. – After outstanding performances this weekend in conference play, junior Jess DeMeo (Mount Sinai, N.Y.) and senior Samantha Santeramo (Wantagh, N.Y.) were named Co-Player and Defensive Player of the Week, respectively, the league announced Monday afternoon.
DeMeo scored a combined 10 goals in two games, recording five at home against Sacred Heart on Friday and in Brooklyn against LIU Brooklyn on Sunday. On Friday, she scored three of her five goals in a second half that saw 12 Bulldogs goals in their win over Sacred Heart. She followed that performance with a three-goal run by herself to jumpstart Bryant's offense in its 13-9 win over LIU Brooklyn.
Santeramo made 19 saves on 33 shots on goal over the weekend, including a big 12-save performance at LIU Brooklyn on Sunday morning. Eight of her saves came in the first half of that matchup with the Blackbirds, helping Bryant retain a slim one-goal lead into the break. She boasts a league-leading 7.58 goals-against average, slightly ahead of Wagner's Lucy Darlington.
This is the third time the two have combined for NEC weekly honors. DeMeo has four player of the week honors this season, while Santeramo has three to her name. As a team, the Bulldogs boast nine weekly awards from the league.
Bryant is back in action with a weekend of home games, starting Friday night when they host the Colonials of Robert Morris at 7 p.m.
