No. 18 Merrimack Scores Two Early, Outlasts No. 17 Bryant 2-1

SMITHFIELD, RI ? No. 18 Merrimack College scored two goals in the first 10 minutes and outlasted No. 17 Bryant University 2-1 in game played today at Bulldog Stadium.
The game was a story of two halves with Merrimack (11-3-1) controlling the first half and Bryant (10-3-2) the second. The Warriors took the offensive early scoring their two goals in the first 10 minutes.
First Laura Asbell scored an unassisted goal at 5:24 mark off deflected a ball to make it 1-0. Four minutes later Hillary McGarr scored off a corner when Kelly Laprade played a well placed ball to her to record the assist and make the score 2-0. The first half saw Merrimack outshoot Bryant 9-to-3.
The second half saw the Bulldogs outshoot Merrimack 7-to-1. Bryant scored at the 79:38 mark when junior Terri Gidius (Coventry, Conn.) scored on a corner kick when she got a perfectly placed ball from freshman Lauren Childers (Franklin, Mass.) and headed the ball into the net for the Bulldogs' lone goal.
Merrimack?s Shannon Rowan made six saves to pick up the win and Bryant?s Kim Rekart (Ellicott City, MD) made five in the loss.
Bryant will return to action Saturday, October 16, when they will have Senior Day against Holy Family. Game time is set for 10:00 a.m. at Sutton Field.
