Smithfield, RI - The Bryant
University women’s soccer team welcomed Pace University to
Bulldog stadium on a cool and cloudy Thursday afternoon. Pace won
the game 1-0. Bryant finishes the regular season with an overall
record of 13-5-2 and a Northeast-10 record of 9-4-1. The Setters
improve their overall record to 10-8-1 and NE-10 record to
5-8-1.
The Bulldogs had a chance just seconds into the game when sophomore
Tricia Spada (Dedham, MA) took a shot on net only
to have it curve and hit the left post. Ten minutes into the second
half she would get unlucky again as her shot sailed just high and
clanked off the crossbar.
Pace only attempted two shots in the game, but got one to
connect. Two and a half minutes into the game senior Marta
Anderson-Winchell (Bloomingburg, NY) connected on her
eighth goal of the season and gave the Setters the 1-0 lead. This
was Marta’s second game winning goal of the season.
Bryant had multiple opportunities but just could not connect. Some
chances resulted in unlucky bounces and others by great saves from
the Pace goalkeeper. Bryant had to play with one less player for
the last 13 minutes of the game due to a red card given to senior
Hannah Sandrowski (Trumbull, CT). The Pace defense
would hold to preserve the win.
Freshman Jessica Neales (Swansea, MA) went the
distance for the Bulldogs saving one shot.
Junior keeper Jocelyne Durando (Monroe, NY)
saved four shots for the Setters. The Bulldogs held a 7-2 advantage
in shots and 5-2 edge in corner kicks.
