Women's Soccer Announces Class of 2011
SMITHFIELD, R.I. - The Bryant University women's soccer team welcomes seven newcomers to the squad for the 2007 season. They will have the challenge of replacing the class of 2007, headlined by all-time leading scorer Casey Grange. Chris Flint's squad qualified for the NCAA Tournament in 2006 for the second time in school history and won a record 15 games. The Bulldogs kick-off the 2007 season on August 26th vs Adelphi at Bulldog Stadium at 1 p.m.
Below are the seven new Bulldogs:
Steph Del Mistro: Before Bryant: Four-year stopper for Wheatley High School where she led the Wildcats to the state championship game after capturing the Long Island and Nassau County B Championships. Three-time conference champion and two-time Nassau County champion. Led team in assists in 2004 and 2005. All-State Second Team in 2006.
Personal: Stephanie Marie Del Mistro was born on 2/28/89 in New Hyde Park, NY. She is the daughter of Angelo and Laura Del Mistro.
Flint on Del Mistro: A very versatile player who should see significant minutes this fall at several positions.
Sarah Donovan: Before Bryant: Four-year center midfielder for E.O. Smith High School in Storrs, CT. Team MVP and Captain in 2006. All-Conference in 2005 and 2006, All-Academic in 2006. Four-year honor roll student.
Personal: Sarah Ann Donovan was born on 8/1/89 in Manchester, CT. She is the daughter of Bill and Jane Donovan.
Flint on Donovan: A very quick attacking player, she should see minutes in the midfield and up top this fall.
Kim Rich: Before Bryant: Member of four-time league champion and 2004 state champion at Nashoba High School. Two-time district champs and state champ runner-up in 2003. Also played basketball for four years. Team MVP as junior and senior. Tied season assists record with 15. Two-time CMass all-star in soccer, three time basketball all-star.
Personal: Kimberlee Ann Rich was born on 10/21/88 in Lancaster, Mass. She is the daughter of Paul and Jeanne Rich.
Flint on Rich: Coming from a very successful high school program, Kim will be competing with several attacking players for playing time.
Kristy Doherty: Before Bryant: Four-year starter on defense at Monroe-Woodbury High School. Led the Crusaders to two Eastern NY State Cup Finals. Also played soccer and lacrosse. Two-year captain. Named Rookie of the Year. Four-year scholar athlete award winner.
Personal: Kristy Ellen Doherty was born on 12/10/88 in Monroe, NY. She is the daughter of Patrick and Kathleen Doherty.
Flint on Doherty: Recovering from an ACL injury during the fall of her senior year in high school. A smart defender who should be able to compete for minutes once fully recovered, played for a competive club program
Kelly Campelia: Before Bryant: Played varsity soccer for two years at Acton-Boxboro High School. Two-time DCL Champions. Received most-dedicated award as a senior. Also play goalie in ice hockey for three years, receiving team MVP her senior year.
Personal: Kelly Ann Campelia was born on 8/24/89 in Sudbury, Mass. She is the daughter of Bruce and Linda Campelia.
Flint on Campelia: Had a nice high school career, and now will compete with several other attacking personalities for playing time as a forward or wide midfielder.
Megan Vayo: Before Bryant: Four-year starter at Whitman-Hanson High School where she led the Panthers to two league championships. Also competed in track and field for three years. National Honor Society member.
Personal: Megan Alexandra Vayo was born on 10/04/88 in West Bridgewater, Mass. She is the daughter of Rick and Linda Vayo.
Flint on Vayo: Coming from a very successful high school program. A crafty attacking player who should compete for time at forward or outside midfield.
Kristin Mulry: Before Bryant: Four-year member of soccer team at Hingham High School. MVP in 2003 and 2006. Three-year all-conference selection and two-time all-scholastic selction. Also played hockey, lacrosse and track. Led team in scoring in 2003, 2005, 2006.
Personal: Kristin Audrey Mulry was born on July 16, 1989 in Boston, MA. She is the daughter of Michael and Lori Mulry.
Flint of Mulry: Should be challenging for playing time up front this fall.
The Bulldogs return 23 players from the 2006 team that qualified for the NCAA Tournament for the second time in school history.
