BRYANT SUFFERS TOUGH LOSS TO YALE; FALL, 2-0, IN NEW HAVEN WEDNESDAY NIGHT

NEW HAVEN, CT - Two second half goals lifted Yale past Bryant, 2-0, in the battle of the Bulldogs Wednesday night in New Haven, Connecticut. Yale, ranked seventh in the latest NSCAA poll, was held scoreless by the Bulldogs through the first 53 minutes of play before leading scorer Maggie Westfal found the back of the net after a scramble in the box. The loss was the third in the last four games for Bryant, whose record fell to 1-7-2, while Yale improved to 5-4-1.

After a thunderstorm delayed the start of the game by over an hour, the first half was slow for both teams, as they combined for a total of three shots. Bryant's defense, led by senior Danielle Malta (Bethel, Conn.) did not allow a shot on net in the first half. Yale outshot Bryant 8-2 in the second half, ending the game with four shots on net compared to two for Bryant.

After Westfal broke the scoring open in the 53rd minute, Emma Whitfield scored just five minutes later on header off a cross from Becky Brown to stake Yale to a 2-0 lead. Kaitlyn Hinck (Bow, N.H.) and Holly Tyser (Somers, Conn.) both registered shots on goal for Bryant, but were not able to beat Yale keepers Ayana Sumiyasu or Adelaide Gay who combined for the shutout.

Bryant will take to the field again on Sunday when they travel to play Wagner (1 p.m.).
