BULLDOGS SUFFER FIRST LOSS, FALL TO WYOMING, 3-1
LARAMIE, WY - Despite jumping out to an early lead, the Bryant Bulldogs fell to the Wyoming Cowgirls, 3-1, Sunday in Laramie, Wyoming. The loss was the first of the season for Bryant, dropping their record to 1-1-0. Freshman Kaitlyn Hinck (Bow, N.H.) got the Bulldogs on the scoreboard with her second of the season in the 15th minute of play on a pass from fellow freshman Brooke Duchaney (Hampton Falls, N.H.), giving Bryant the early, 1-0, advantage. The Cowgirls would respond later in the first half when Juliana Candelaria (Albuquerque, N.M.) found Emily Layton (Colorado Springs, Colo.) for her first goal of the season to knot the game up at, 1-1, at halftime.
Wyoming (1-1-0) took the lead early in the second half as Amanda Lathrop (Lakewood, Colo.) broke away from the Bryant defense and dribbled past goalkeeper Katie Mitchell (Deer Park, N.Y.) for the score to give the Cowgirls a lead they would not relinquish. Nicole Rice (Jackson, Wyo.) put home an insurance goal in the 65th minute of play on an assist from Lathrop, making the score 3-1, which is where it would stand as the final horn sounded. The Bulldogs concluded their trip to the Mountain region with a 1-1 record, including their first win as a Division 1 program.
Bryant's next match will be Thursday at Providence (4 p.m.).
